Shingok Primary School Soccer Team (South Korea) @ KangaCup 2007

The Shingok Primary School Soccer Team

It was with great surprise, excitement and short notice that John Barilaro was approached to organise the 2nd visit of the Shingok Primary School Soccer Team from Korea. Their visit 2 years ago to the Kanga Cup through John's efforts secured their revisit this year.
Within 2 weeks John Barilaro , Nadia Colbertaldo ( Monaro Panthers Vice President ( and acting President)) and Mr Keith Lee ( FFA Korean Ambassador ) had the schedule for the 22 boy squad mapped out ( 1 Friendly match , 7 Kanga Cup matches , visits to Parliament House , National Zoo and Aquarium , Questacon , 10Pin Bowling ,etc ), later 2 more friendly’s were added. With many thanks to the many volunteers including the Monaro Panthers families who billeted the boys ( 2 , 3 and 4 per family) and showed the Korean boys something of Australian life for the 8 days they lived with them.
Thanks to the Barilaro’s , the Colbertaldo’s , the Nguyen’s , the Moore’s , the Hodder’s, the Davies’s , the Jenkins’s , the Lind’s and the Ziesig’s .
The Shingok Team were a pleasure to watch , their first touch , their passing , moving into spaces , communication ( though most of us didn’t understand Korean ) , playing what Nike describe as “Beautiful Football” , all at a level we would like to see our kids play and for that matter all Monaro Players.
The first match was a friendly with the U13 Monaro Panthers. Both teams playing well with the final score Monaro 1 : Shingok 6 . After which Monaro Panthers put on a BBQ for all.
The Kanga Cup scores were as follows (http://www.kangacup.com/draws.htm)
Shingok 20 : Avalon United 0
Shingok 21 : Marist College 0
Shingok 12 : Majura 0
Shingok 6 : Lakemba Sports Club 2
Shingok 15 : STFA Strikers 1
Shingok 5 : Bentleigh Greens 1
Hence putting them into the Final against Adelaide City on Friday Night
Shingok 7 : Adelaide City 2
Ko Joun Ho achieving a 2nd place , U12 Boys Player of the Tournament
Shingok still wanted to play more games and 2 more friendly matches were organised by John , against Gungahlin and our Monaro Panthers U13 boys again. Shingok had brought 22 players over and these 2 friendly’s allowed those, that had been on the bench for Kanga Cup, to come out and show the coach what they can do, including their youngest player (only 9years old).
Shingok 5 : Gungahlin 2
Shingok 1 : Monaro Panthers 1
Plans are underway for a return visit to Korea for Monaro Panthers. Best of luck organising that one John ( At least you have more than 2 weeks).
