The Monaro U10 Boys @ EUROBODALLA Tournament
MONARO joint winners of U/10 Eurobodalla Soccer Tournament
Last weekend the Monaro U/10 soccer team travelled to Batemans Bay to
participate in the Eurobodalla U/10 Soccer Carnival over 2 days. The
soccer was hot but not nearly as hot as the weather with 30 plus degrees
both days.
Teams from all over Southern NSW participated including Queanbeyan,
Eurobodalla, Shoalhaven, Far South Coast,Southern Tablelands and
Canberra.
DAY 1
Monaro played Southern Tablelands in the first game and were unluckily
beaten 1-0 after dominating play and possession. Game 2 was against
Cooma. The game began at a frantic pace and Monaro went 1-0 up thanks to
a goal from Daniel Ziesig. Good lead up work from Jake Jackson gave
Daniel an opportunity which he finished well.
DAY 2
Monaro played a must win game against Shoalhaven in Game 3, who had won
both games on DAY 1. The boys played superbly to win 1-0. Travis Elliot
scored the goal, completing a run from inside his own half with a great
shot. Game 4 was against Eurobodalla and was again a must win if Monaro
was to make the final. The team had been improving with every match and
this form continued with a 2-0 victory over the tournament favourites.
Goals from James Irwin and Kurt Michl ensured victory. As leaders of
their group Monaro progressed to the final to play Woden. At the
completion of normal time the scores were locked 1-1 and extra time
golden goal was required. Brad Pankasz showed nerves of steel to score
from the penalty spot to make the scores 1-1. The scores were locked 1-1
after extra time with Monaro and Woden announced joint winners of the
tournament.
Congratulations to all players on a fantastic performance in very trying
conditions and special mention to Alex Nguyen who was announced player
of the tournament.
